Moral Movies Greensboro: June 24

June 24, 2014 @ 6:30 am - 8:30 pm

Moises will be speaking on a panel and sharing his story as part of this event, the screening of the documentary Freedom Summer.

50 years have passed since Freedom Summer, when more than 700 local organizers and students took segregated Mississippi by storm, registering voters, and creating freedom schools. This effort put a national spotlight on the violent voter suppression facing Black Americans in the deep south and ultimately led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Half a century later, voting rights are under attack again.

The Beloved Community Center, the Fund for Democratic Communities, and the International Civil Rights Center and Museum are proud to bring Freedom Summer to Greensboro on June 24th at 6:30pm. This award winning one hour documentary takes a look back at the the Summer of ‘64 and offers a resonate and compelling call for renewed efforts to protect voting rights and access to the polls.

Join us for this FREE screening and discussion to jumpstart community dialogue and action to strengthen democracy across the state. This event is part of the ongoing Moral Movies film series and is co-presented with Working Films, Democracy NC, the NC-NAACP and allies.
